THERAPY SERVICES

Two people at a therapy session metaphorically represented by a broken heart that they are trying to repair.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THERAPY?

Therapy sessions normally take place weekly and last 60 minutes. The sessions typically include practical exercises and are supplemented with homework.

Therapy starts with the intake session, where we discuss your reasons to seek help, your expectations, and find the "therapy question". We will define specific and measurable goals, and work together to achieve them. Throughout our interaction, you will remain in the lead for the direction you want to take and changes you want to make. Therefore, your desire to change something and work for that is a key precondition for success of the therapy.

We will not only work on improving your immediate well-being, but aim to equip you with tools and techniques to achieve long-term happiness and fulfillment.

If your therapy question is outside of my specialization, do not hesitate to reach out as well. I will either refer you to another specialist, or we can decide to proceed with working together.

What to Expect

WORKING WITH ANXIETY

Anxiety is a normal part of life. It is a very common and useful reaction to new and/or stressful situations.

However, severe anxiety might cause you to avoid certain places and social situations, like preventing you from speaking up in public. It might worsen your physical health. Or it might manifest itself  as acute panic attacks. if your anxiety is persistent, intense, and tends to overwhelm you sometimes to an extent of impacting your decisions, life quality, and daily situations, reaching out for professional support can help you.

Gaining a calmer, more grounded sense of acceptance, distancing and defusing from negative feelings, and learning to differentiate between what to focus on and what to let go off, are things that I can help my clients master within the ACT framework.

WORKING WITH TRAUMA

Trauma is hard to define precisely. There are many things you can experience as being traumatic. It depends not on what has happened to you, but on how you experienced that event. Any event that overwhelmed your mind, emotions, or body, and damaged your normal coping mechanisms, can be considered as traumatic.

The most important thing to recognize is that healing after trauma is possible, and trauma does not have to control your life and your future. Trauma can either become a pivotal event that changes your world to "before" and "after", or can become your experience that you own and move on. If you experienced traumatic events, you can ask for help.

It will allow you to accept and find peace with what it outside of their control, and instead define and commit to actions that enrich your life.
